Healthy Choices Initiatives 2019

Updated: Oct 5, 2019

In just the blink of an eye, Autumn is upon us! It is a season to harvest what we have planted; it is a season to learn something new, to start a new project, and to renew a vow to which we have committed.

Two years ago deep in the fall, I found myself facing a harsh reality: I had been diagnosed with prediabetes. At first, I was shocked and in denial. However, I realized I didn’t have to live this way. I vowed to change my way of feeding my body and cultivate healthy habits. I facilitated two support groups of ten ladies called "Healthy choices for the rest of your lives.” Through these groups, we kept each other accountable to healthy lifestyles by eating right and exercising more. Since then, I myself have managed to lose weight and to maintain a daily exercise routine. However, even though I have been successful in controlling my weight, my A1C number stayed in the prediabetic range. As much as I felt discouraged, I accepted it as an indication of who I am and what I have to be watching with my diet for the rest of my life.

Today, my journey continues. I invite you to join me this fall for "Healthy Choices Initiatives 2019.” By joining this group, we vow to

1) understand ourselves, physically and mentally;

2) cultivate healthy habits;

3) eat right;

4) exercise more.

This group will meet 10 times from November 2019 to February 2020 on Sundays 2:30-3:30pm. The initial meeting will be on November 3rd.
